Highly effective presentation skills is one of the key attributes looked for when recruiting new staff.
Some people develop their presentation skills over a period of years by making powerpoint presentations and and of course learning from their own experiences.
In reality however, you can build up effective presentation skills more quickly if you receive good presentation skills training from an experienced training company.
An alternative but slower way to progress is by reading presentation skills tips and advice on the web and in books. And here are some initial tips to help you start to build up your presentation skills.
When starting to design a presentation don’t immediately fire up Powerpoint. You should wait until you’ve finished the initial draft before doing that.
Research your audience – and what presumptions they might have already made about your presentation. how successful you are will very much be due to what the audience feel about your presentation the audience react tofavourably.
Thus think about who your audience are likely to be and what expectations they might have. And then when you come to produce the speech you can use your knowledge to make sure that what you write is very relevant to them.
Next make sure that you are clear on just what you’d like to get from the session. Do you want to sell them a product? Are you trying to pass on some important information? Do you want to obtain the audience’s approval for your project? Whichever reason(s) it is just, simply ensure that you are clear about them ahead of work starting on the text of the presentation.
Then with the above points in mind you can design a presentation that will be understood by the members of your audience and includes what you need to achieve too. If possible use the power of 3 in your business presentation structure. It’s a simple but also a very effective structure ? so try a Beginning; Middle; End. Chunk the middle section up into three smaller sections. One part for each of the main points you want to make in your presentation.

Now that you have the main text of your presentation ready it is time to consider visuals. Don’t just use Powerpoint as a personal memory aid. The visual aids are there for the audience. Ensure you make the slides you produce as visual and non text heavy as possible. They are there to enhance the presentation, they are not the presentation themselves. You might also try to ensure that you keep the number of visuals to an absolute minimum.
And of course, when you come to give the presentation, don’t try not to read off the PPT slides, always face the audience when you are presenting. And remember to smile!
